My English teacher in ENGL 289 is awesome. She is funny, emortional, passionate, and always being herself. As a teacher to teach me something academic, she might not be the best person to teach what exactly English department want her to teach. She was, however, the best English teacher still in my life.
She said "I love "The lady is tramp" by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennet. She is awesome. You guys know what tramp means??"
I have never seen English professor love Lady Gaga. I think this was the good time to made me feel closer to her. I don't say I'm a huge fun of Lady Gaga. But many of her generation just don't accept the concept of what Lady Gaga wants to be and just say "oh this is such thing that young people like it. not for me." They don't even try to understand why she acts like this way, why she likes it. (I mean this song was her generation and covered by them. still she was curious what the newer generation likes and don't show the disgusting face to them without listening to it)
She always show us something different.
One day she showed us "Do you know Sonet by Shake Spear? This is the poem....(and she started reading it and explain it emoritonally.) "you know this feeling. This is just amazing, how he writes. Even if you don't see the scene, you can imagine it by reading those words. This is a poem we are talking about."
The poem was talking about a rose. She said " What is a rose. Why it's here. it's a symbol of love. Why it's a symbol of love. because it's red!" It's obvious thing that the rose is symbol of love but I have never doubt why. I also knew the red is symbolic color of love but I didn't really connected
rose--> love<-- red
so this was also astonishing discovery for me. Asking and having a question to something normal to everyone... was really new for me. so artistic... I love it in this way.
The other day she let us discuss about the picture of Van Vincent Gogh "Starry Night". She continues "What is Starry? It's a star but not A start, it's a lot of stars." Play on words that I didn't even notice. Starry... yeah sounds like star. because there are many stars, that's why it's starRY lol make sense to me now :D
She was the one who always explain to me and made me say "Oh, yea! that's why."
Whatever she shows is just so inspirational for me.
I only had her class for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for an hour but it was always so inspirational. I always wanted to go back home and draw after her class and start thinking about what I like to do in my life..... and it's just infinate how she inspire me. She always gives us one poke. It was just like giving me a 100 inspiration to think about by her poking talks. It is always astonishing, funny, and inspirational.
She was a cool English teacher I have ever had.
I'm not saying this because of grade, or anything.
(so I'm sending this to her to let her know that I wrote about her after next quarter starts...lol)
I think I rate her one of the person inspired me in my life.
Thank you Michelle Holley.
